British Capture Fort Niagara 19 December 1813

In the early morning hours of 19 December 1813, British forces captured Ft Niagara in western New York state. The attack was in revenge for the destruction of the town of Niagara on the British (to be Canadian) side of the river. The British were to hold the area around Fort Niagara until the end of the War of 1812 (1815).
